Announcement: Garden Festival & Booth Applications

Hello everyone! You might have seen some mentions of the Garden Festival before, but here's the official announcement -- [livejournal.com profile] ff_land's first ever Garden Festival will be held from August 1st to August 15th at our shiny new events community, [livejournal.com profile] ff_eventsquare!

(If you go to that comm, though, it's just a sad and empty place for now, because we're not done setting up yet!)

So what's the Garden Festival? It's basically an excuse to throw a party :D Well, in all seriousness, it's actually so that non-members get a chance to see what it's like in [livejournal.com profile] ff_land. Right now the only public communities are [livejournal.com profile] ff_land, [livejournal.com profile] ff_classchange, and [livejournal.com profile] moogle_workshop. But for 15 days, there'll be tons of activities and games running, and everyone is welcome to participate, especially non-members!

Even better; if you've participated and decided that hey, it's a pretty fun thing, maybe I wanna join; you'll get to keep all of the prizes that you've won (in the form of game points)!

And for our current members, the Garden Festival is also a chance for you to run activities!

[livejournal.com profile] lightofeilia mentioned the booth system earlier in a post over at [livejournal.com profile] airship_lounge, but basically the gist of it is that these activities and games mentioned above will be held in the form of booths/stalls, kind of like at a carnival. So if you have an idea for a booth and want to run it, you can apply at this post. There's also a suggestion thread in the comments if you have an idea but don't particularly want to run a booth.

If you don't have an idea but want to help out anyway, you can brainstorm on other suggestions and fill out a booth application later. If you just want to help out on someone else's booth, there's a helper application you can fill out and post as a reply to an existing booth application.

Booth Application Form

Helper Application Form

What's the reward for running booths? YOU GET GIL! Yes, shiny gil. Because of this, however, there'll be a limit to the number of booths that are gonna be held, just so that we don't overcrowd. We'll get back to you on the limit as soon as we see how many people are applying.

Schedule
Applications will be closed on July 15th. From July 16th to July 31st, all booth owners will be setting up their booths over at our events community. Then, we'll open the festival on the 1st of August.

Let's get those applications up and running!

Note: The events in [livejournal.com profile] ff_eventsquare will be public, so you do not need to join it in order to participate in the Garden Festival. The only people that will be invited to it are those running a stand.

Meanwhile, since it mentions invites... Can we join the community anyway? Or will those not be accepted since it would allow people to post topics?

The way it's set up currently disallows you to even press the "Join" button.

DENIED! :D

(ps: you running the lottery booth? :) you never got back to me on that)

Re: BOOTH SUGGESTIONS

[identity profile] thedrowned.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Since eilia thought I had already made this event up (even though I had told her it didn't work out right), I made a small minigame type booth.

It's kind of like a scratch-card. The user gets to choose which ones to scratch off and if they get three right, they win. I also had another type, where you scratch until you win, basically.

Anyway, I don't know about prizes. All I listed was gil and cards. That's a pretty bad prize set. If you want all gil, then the first method would work better.

Let me know if this sounds feasible, and I'll link you to the post I made about it.

I just replied below to Tako about that, so I'll do it if she likes it. I'm also working on cards, so don't kill me. ;_;

Booth application
Name: [livejournal.com profile] lightofeilia (putting my booth app out so it's easier to count the number of booths)
Class: MONK!
Booth Name: FF_LAND BATTLE ARENA! *trumpet noises*
Booth Info: Sign up, pick a team of three, and get ready to duel!
Proposed Layout/Setup: Rules are pretty simple, you control a team of three characters of any job class (there are six... all of the ones we use for ff_land xD), and you fight a turn-based battle via comments with another person.
Prizes/Participation: maybe 50 points to win a duel, or less, depending on the difficulty.
On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being easy and 5 being difficult), how much work do you think will go into maintaining this booth?: Um, 3, maybe ... there's a bit of calculation involved.
If you answered 4 or 5 to the above question, would you want a helper to help you out?: I only put a 3, but I'd welcome a helper!

Is this the same card game you were originally planning on hosting or the trading card one discussed awhile ago?

If it's the former, can I host the trading cards since it seems to be "whoever has the idea = runs the booth" for the most part? (Since there's no /game/ involved except for the initial predictions/desires, I don't think they will overlap? Entirely different concept in everything except the "cards" part, really.)

[identity profile] thedrowned.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
edit Wow, I just realise what garbage I was saying.

No, I'll be doing the one I originally planned.

Yes! Do go ahead and run that booth. You'll have to apply for one or use the Booth Suggestion thread.

I'm sure you knew what I was talking about, but for my sake, I had to rectify my idiocy.

If I'm only running the (maybe) lottery-type booth, then I could be a possible helper.<3

[identity profile] lightofeilia.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
How did I know you were gonna volunteer? Lol. Sure!

You don't need to fill out a helper application man, you helped me set up and beta-test it. DROWNY'S MAH HELPER AWWRIGHT

[identity profile] thedrowned.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehe, are you sure I shouldn't post one just in case? /actually missed it the first time

go ahead, impress me :D

Helper Application
Name: Vampire Chocobo D
Class: Dragoon vampire children-eater
Name of booth you would like to help out in: Battle Arena. You know. That thing from FF7 where Cloud is pit against anything and everything for 5 hours until you finally get the points necessary for the ONLY THING YOU CAME HERE FOR.
Give a few reasons saying how you could help out, assuming you've already read the booth application. Reason one. I'm amazing. Reason B, I helped her out at the beginning for testing and beta to work the kinks out. It's lots of fun. Reason Z(ed), I may or may not be doing anything else in the Festival, so I have a lot of open time to help. And reason 3, eilia is awesome and it would be really cool to work with her.

Sorry I failed to take it seriously. I never take what I ought to seriously. /dies

I'll allow you to help me, but only for acknowledging reason3 *snerk*

Uh, seriously though, you can help :D (for all reasons stated! i can't be mean to you!)

[identity profile] the-404-error.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Booth application
Name: [livejournal.com profile] the_404_error
Class: Team Let Our Tall Hats Distract You While You Catch on Fire~
Booth Name: Trading FF Characters (Or Just "Trading Card Booth" if you'd prefer)
Booth Info:
Simply, a trading card game. I'll create cards in advance based around the preferences here (i.e. so people will be more encouraged, I'll use characters I know individuals here like with several "duds" thrown in), and distribute them to anyone who comments at random. (Right now, I'm assuming it will be five cards per person, although they can have more or less if they trade, say, two cards to someone in exchange for one.) Everyone can have their own thread within the booth listing their cards, and another for trading. As for why people will be encouraged to trade and not just give people cards they know the other will like... I'll list that in prizes below.

Proposed Layout/Setup:
Ah, I accidentally mentioned the threads above. If any additional information is needed, let me know.
Prizes/Participation:
Either before the start or on the first day (depending on how the garden festival will be run), people can make a screened list of the cards they want. (I'll provide a list of cards in advance) The people who get the most on their list, win gil. You also get to keep the cards you win, but... since it's all digital, I guess that doesn't matter. XD I could put their usernames/names on their cards if they want to keep them at the end? Or attempt to make shiny graphics with all their cards?

Also, so people don't predict all dud cards just to win more points, there will only be one or two characters for those... they'll just in a higher amount. (I.e. "Another Water Energy Card? D:")
On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being easy and 5 being difficult), how much work do you think will go into maintaining this booth?:
Hm, 3? The actual maintaining during game will be easy, but the card creating may take awhile...
If you answered 4 or 5 to the above question, would you want a helper to help you out?:
It isn't necessary, especially since it's between the time when all my classes end and school starts up again... So I imagine I'll have plenty of freetime. XD

BOOTH EXAMINER :D

[identity profile] lightofeilia.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
I... uh, don't get it. :X So this is completely different from D's card game?

Re: BOOTH EXAMINER :D

[identity profile] the-404-error.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yes? I discussed it with D earlier. If you've ever played a trading card game (which isn't actually a "game" the same way card games are it's just trading things), it's exactly like that only... online.

Re: BOOTH EXAMINER :D

[identity profile] lightofeilia.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
(I've never played a trading card game... /hides in a corner in shame)

Maybe explain to me more about how you plan to run it?

Re: BOOTH EXAMINER :D

[identity profile] the-404-error.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm... how about, don't think of them as cards. Just as graphics with characters on them, since it doesn't make a difference.

With trading cards, you buy a packet (although these will be free upon request) and get a random, say, 5 cards with different characters on them. You can then trade them with other people until you get the ones you want. It'll be just like that, only with graphic-cards, and you can win as described above.

Ex: Say you want a Selphie card and you have a Balthier, you can trade that one with person that has Selphie in order to get closer to your predicted/desired deck?

I hope that helps a little? There really is not game involved in quite a lot of them, and that's as it is here... the only 'game' is trading with other people in an attempt to get the ones you want.

Re: BOOTH EXAMINER :D

[identity profile] lightofeilia.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, okay I get it. As for setting up, how many cards total will you make?

Screened lists should go in a main comments thread on the start day of festival for non-members to participate as well.

And I think you're good!

[identity profile] breyzyyin.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Booth application
Name: Yin and Breyzy of [livejournal.com profile] breyzyyin
Class: White Mage (Yin) and Soldier (Breyzy)
Booth Name: Speciality Job Class Rating Booth
Booth Info: Everyone has been sorted into Job Class Categories over at [livejournal.com profile] ff_classchange, correct? So we know if we're Soldier, Thief/Ninja, Monk, Dragoon, Black Mage/Red Mage, White Mage/Summoner already. But there are SO many different job classes in the FF series! What if someone was a Samurai or a Dancer? A Time Mage or a Viking? A Paladin or a Dark Knight? A Geomancer or a Mimic? To those who want to find out what their secondary profession in the FF series might be, this booth is their best bet! ♥
Proposed Layout/Setup: Our booth would be set up with a general information section, guidelines for applying (such as being sure to vote on others who are also applying, etc.), a rating application...and perhaps a list of the jobs being considered for the rating itself (or a link to a wiki page for them, lolz). There would also be a stamped list for when members were stamped with a Job Class so others could see which job they were sorted into. Members would be encouraged to either post their application in a public entry on their own LJ and linking to it in a comment to the booth, or, if they felt more comfortable doing so, posting the entry in a comment itself...either way would work. Then others would vote on them from there! When a certain number for a majority is reached (probably five votes or perhaps more depending on how active the activity is)...that person will be announced stamped with the job profession others felt fit them the best.
Prizes/Participation: A shiny, shiny personalized stamp for each person who participates will be the main reward! ♥ But gil and points could be given depending on voting participation before a person is stamped and after...and perhaps some could also be given for applying as well. Not sure of how much would be a good amount for those yet. XD
On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being easy and 5 being difficult), how much work do you think will go into maintaining this booth?: ...With two of us and a potential other helper? 2 or 3 maybe, depending on how active the booth is or how inactive it could get (as either one presents some amount of challenge). Still, it would be fairly manageable with both of us there to help out. :D
If you answered 4 or 5 to the above question, would you want a helper to help you out?: N/A...though helpers could be pretty nice too, it just depends on where you feel they are needed more! :D

BOOTH EXAMINER!

[identity profile] lightofeilia.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Alright, this should be good! I assume you'll start writing up the applications soon? You'll have a month from now, but yeah XD
