Announcement: Garden Festival & Booth Applications

Hello everyone! You might have seen some mentions of the Garden Festival before, but here's the official announcement -- [livejournal.com profile] ff_land's first ever Garden Festival will be held from August 1st to August 15th at our shiny new events community, [livejournal.com profile] ff_eventsquare!

(If you go to that comm, though, it's just a sad and empty place for now, because we're not done setting up yet!)

So what's the Garden Festival? It's basically an excuse to throw a party :D Well, in all seriousness, it's actually so that non-members get a chance to see what it's like in [livejournal.com profile] ff_land. Right now the only public communities are [livejournal.com profile] ff_land, [livejournal.com profile] ff_classchange, and [livejournal.com profile] moogle_workshop. But for 15 days, there'll be tons of activities and games running, and everyone is welcome to participate, especially non-members!

Even better; if you've participated and decided that hey, it's a pretty fun thing, maybe I wanna join; you'll get to keep all of the prizes that you've won (in the form of game points)!

And for our current members, the Garden Festival is also a chance for you to run activities!

[livejournal.com profile] lightofeilia mentioned the booth system earlier in a post over at [livejournal.com profile] airship_lounge, but basically the gist of it is that these activities and games mentioned above will be held in the form of booths/stalls, kind of like at a carnival. So if you have an idea for a booth and want to run it, you can apply at this post. There's also a suggestion thread in the comments if you have an idea but don't particularly want to run a booth.

If you don't have an idea but want to help out anyway, you can brainstorm on other suggestions and fill out a booth application later. If you just want to help out on someone else's booth, there's a helper application you can fill out and post as a reply to an existing booth application.

What's the reward for running booths? YOU GET GIL! Yes, shiny gil. Because of this, however, there'll be a limit to the number of booths that are gonna be held, just so that we don't overcrowd. We'll get back to you on the limit as soon as we see how many people are applying.

Schedule
Applications will be closed on July 15th. From July 16th to July 31st, all booth owners will be setting up their booths over at our events community. Then, we'll open the festival on the 1st of August.

Let's get those applications up and running!

Note: The events in [livejournal.com profile] ff_eventsquare will be public, so you do not need to join it in order to participate in the Garden Festival. The only people that will be invited to it are those running a stand.

(I've never played a trading card game... /hides in a corner in shame)

Maybe explain to me more about how you plan to run it?

Hmm... how about, don't think of them as cards. Just as graphics with characters on them, since it doesn't make a difference.

With trading cards, you buy a packet (although these will be free upon request) and get a random, say, 5 cards with different characters on them. You can then trade them with other people until you get the ones you want. It'll be just like that, only with graphic-cards, and you can win as described above.

Ex: Say you want a Selphie card and you have a Balthier, you can trade that one with person that has Selphie in order to get closer to your predicted/desired deck?

I hope that helps a little? There really is not game involved in quite a lot of them, and that's as it is here... the only 'game' is trading with other people in an attempt to get the ones you want.

Oooh, okay I get it. As for setting up, how many cards total will you make?

Screened lists should go in a main comments thread on the start day of festival for non-members to participate as well.

And I think you're good!

At the moment, I'm thinking around 35 given the levels of participation in minigames. (There will at least be seven people, most likely, so all characters should be distributed at least once. Also there will be duplicates of some of them, although I don't have all of the numbers worked out quite yet.)

Ah, thanks then. ;X

As far as I'm concerned, they actually remind me of the chip games. Do you know those, Vanja? They used to be downloaded offline as collectibles.

You don't need anything, right? No graphics or sprites or anything? /would also help but then, you're awesome with graphics so haha

Hmm... You mean those bottle-cap-esque games? I've seen them, but never really looked into them. I'm assuming they're the same as Trading Figures, Trading... and well, all Trading things? XD

'Tis alright, Roax already enthusiastically volunteered, but thanks!
