Game 3 Feedback - Part 2

Part 2 of the super-long poll of I'm-sorry-it's-so-super-long!

This one part is about [livejournal.com profile] ff_classchange and [livejournal.com profile] airship_lounge.

As a note, I will be posting a mod contact list soon, so if you have any issues with any of these communities and would rather discuss with the mods heading them, you can ask them directly! For now, most of them are okay with PMs and such.

Once again, please use this system for scales:

1 - CHANGE IT NOW CHANGE IT PLEASE
2 - There are some really, really big problems that need fixing like now
3-4 - There are some really big problems, but I'm not going to quit over them
5-6 - I don't really like it, but I can live with it
7-8 - There are some problems, but it's not too bad
9 - There really isn't anything wrong with it
10 - It's perfect, please don't change it!

And again, please note that textbox entry limit is 255 characters, and you can PM/IM/email/etc me answers if you don't want to comment.

AGAIN with some clarification (although idk how to fix this one!): I feel like sometimes, the scale questions on the stamping app encourage people to skew their votes in favour of certain classes. Like if you're optimistic and cheerful, you'll pretty much always be put in Thieves, same for if you're logical/thinking in Black Mages and forgiving for White Mages. Like I said though, not sure how to fix it? Maybe just a word-choice change, with less connotations? It might just be me, anyway...

Truthfully, I kind of feel the same way sometimes. I think certain job classes seem more geared towards certain word choices than others based on how people interpret more well-known characters in them: for instance, both Soldier and Dragoon tend to be associated with "gloomy" at times because of characters like Kain, Squall, and Cloud despite how not every character in those job classes *are* "gloomy" (Zack, Fang, and Cid for instance)...and White Mages often get associated with "introverted" or "shy" because Yuna is a very familiar character to most FF fans (though not all White Mage characters are necessarily introverted or shy). Thieves do seem to be associated a lot with optimism and cheerful-ness in the voting too, and Black Mages are often associated with logical/thinking as well...though there are other job classes that could also possibly fit for those categories too that sometimes are overlooked in terms of voting due to character association and the like. I'm not entirely sure how to change that though, because I do feel like the word choices are helpful at times too...but I do agree with your assessment that it can sometimes gear voters in directions that maybe they wouldn't have perhaps thought of beforehand.

(That's also my main issue with some of the FF questions too in the sorting, truthfully. Sometimes if you mention why you like a certain character in the survey part or why you possible relate to them...it seems like it possibly skews voting towards a job class that character might be associated with at well. Again, the questions can be helpful and they are more optional in a lot of ways...so I don't know how to "correct" that either. 0_0;)

Thank you very much for commenting back! :D ♥

I have to agree with what others have said below this now too, and I'm glad it's something that others have noticed. It's an issue at times, but IT IS something that is based more on preconceptions and there really isn't anything that can be done to change that unfortunately. In rating comms in general, sometimes I've noticed that there are certain "buzz words" that just automatically make people lean more towards a certain character...and that's an issue in rating comms that isn't something that's really possible to change either. I kind of think that might be the same situation here: it's noticeable, but not really plausible to change (elaboration on description can help as Mysti said, but sometimes if a description is short it does really depend on a voter's view/interpretation of a word in question). I just kind of wanted to mention that I've seen the same thing sometimes when it was mentioned before I got to the poll. XD

While this has been brought up before and it is an issue, it's a preconception people have. It's not really possible to stop people from thinking a certain way. The personality descriptions of the types was expanded a bit last time, and more emphasis was put on the thieves being clever and quick thinking to differentiate from black mages... Still, if it's a preconception people are going in with, I'm not sure if I can do anything about it since I don't have any influence over how people vote beyond "just don't post one-word votes." I could add in reminders like "hey, you know there's that intelligent and cheerful solider over there!" but I imagine that may be more annoying than anything.

I honestly think by now it's unchangeable, even though we all know it's a problem. I think part of the issue with the 'intelligent' thing (to use it as an example) is that people don't always elaborate. So if someone just cites 'intelligent' without going into additional detail - well, you could make a case for just about any class being intelligent, it's just expressed differently. I imagine someone who isn't very academic but who is excellent at thinking up strategies might fit very well into Soldier. Unfortunately, if all someone says is 'intelligent', it boils down to what your first impression of 'intelligent' is. If it's book-smarts, that tends to lean the vote towards Black Mage; if it's street-smart, more Thief. And so on.

I found that while I enjoy the classchange the way it is, currently we emphaise too much on persoanlity profile rather than appitutde profile. the ff class is more about what you do than who you are so I'd like to see a more swing toward the side of, say, what would one do in a survival situation? what is their preference in working style? etc

Would definitely love this swing :) Personally I feel that questions like what would one do in a survival situation and preference in working style reveals quite a bit about personality as well and not just aptitude, so they'd fit in fine with our current system. :D I hadn't read the comments before filling out the form (didn't want to be influenced prior to my answers), but I wrote a question along the survival situation lines. We can vary the situations a little so it's not all about ! life or death but maybe slot in a few this way so we have a better perspective of the applicant :D

1. A genie offers you one wish... but only if you swear to fulfill a request of his. You don't have any clue as to what this request is. Would you accept his request, and if so, what would you wish for? If not, why?

2. Congratulations! You're a contestant on Survivor: Final Fantasy! Which luxury item would you choose to take with you and why?

3. You're near the end of the game! However, this is a new version of FF with multiple endings... including bad ones. There's a side-quest that will let you obtain the Best Gear Ever, but there's a 30% risk that you won't be able to save the world if you complete the side-quest because you wasted too much time. But, y'know, Best Gear Ever! Would you do the side-quest or not?
