Eventsquare Booth Signups!
Hello, guys! Mysti here. I am not your shiny events mod, as you very well know; that would be the lovely
etsplanations, who is currently overseas. I'm posting this on her behalf since she's asked me to hold the fort for her while she's away.
For those of you who aren't aware,
ff_eventsquare hosts a - well, the name says everything, doesn't it? - event once every game. Following Ets's grand (and very new) tradition, I'll copypaste the introduction
lightofeilia wrote for the festival, back in Game 2:
True to carnival-style, the festival has different 'booths', run (ideally speaking) by different people. If you have an idea for a booth and would like to run one, there are forms below! (Yours truly will make sure it gets to Ets.)
Ideally we'd like about 5 to 10 booths for the event. Please leave a comment here if you'd like to open a booth or help to run one; people running booths, please feel free to ask for helpers if necessary! You do not need to run booths over a continuous span of days; one-off booths (like many of our current minigames) are acceptable, as well.
Booth Application Form
Helper Application Form
What do you get for running booths? I'm afraid we can't offer points for that, but we can and do reward booth-owners and helpers with 1000 gil each. It's also the chance to run your own minigame, if you've wanted to do that. Suggestions are welcome even if you don't want to run booths, and if you DO want to run one but don't know what you'd like to run, just offer to help out and maybe there'll be a few booths for you!
SCHEDULE
We're planning on running this event during the last two weeks of the game, with possibly a little overlap into extra time for wrapup. Which means this is a little late, so could I please have replies (if possible) by the 15th? I'm honestly very sorry the timespan is so short.
CURRENT BOOTH LIST
• Haven't I heard you somewhere before...? run by
toffeethesnob [HELPER SLOT OPEN]
• Toffee's Final Fantasy Character Cosplay Booth of Terror (mwahahaha!) run by... well,
toffeethesnob (mwahahaha.)
NOTE: The events in
ff_eventsquare will be public, so you do not need to join it in order to participate in the event. The only people that will be invited to it are those running a stand.
ADDITIONAL NOTE: I'll answer any questions you have as best as I can; however, if these are questions best referred to Ets, I'll forward them to her - which may mean a delay in replies.

So what's the Garden Festival? It's basically an excuse to throw a party :D Well, in all seriousness, it's actually so that non-members get a chance to see what it's like inff_land. Right now the only public communities are
ff_land,
ff_classchange, and
moogle_workshop. But for 15 days, there'll be tons of activities and games running, and everyone is welcome to participate, especially non-members!
Even better; if you've participated and decided that hey, it's a pretty fun thing, maybe I wanna join; you'll get to keep all of the prizes that you've won (in the form of game points)!
And for our current members, the Garden Festival is also a chance for you to run activities!

An idea I also have for a minigame would be to show screengrabs from various anime or games that feature the voice actors (english or Japanese) of FF characters along with clues as to who they are. For example:
(JAPANESE VOICE CAST)
(1) Long hair and a voice aren't the only things this redhead shares with a certain FF character. Both have a love for the ladies, though this FF character has a little harder luck what with the duff leg and dorky attitude...
(2) This grumpy blond priest's voice actor certainly is no stranger to playing characters that preach - though his more famous FF role is not a man of the cloth so much as a devout follower of a goddess and 'The Light'. In this anime he plays a character all too trigger happy with his handgun who constantly threatens his party members, but in FF his character wields a sword and will threaten anyone who dares threaten his party members.
(3) The brown hair is already a close similarity to the character this guy shares a voice with. Though whilst this character is supposedly 'a dumb monkey' who travels around with 3 guys and a dragon, in FF his voice actor gets to play a character who travels around with 3 girls (and one old guy) and a chocobo. He does however get to hang out with a monkey-like companion in another FF game...
Just out of curiosity am I only allowed to run only the one booth?

#2: ...and a trivia booth in which people guess the FF character? May I ask if you're planning to make it a once off, or a sort of regularly scheduled thing, like... a few questions every few days?
Well, ideally we try to limit it to one person per booth (though you can help out with another booth if you're keen) so more people get a chance to try their hand at it and earn gil? On the other hand, I do acknowledge this is short notice and there might be space for more. Were there any more booths you wanted to host?

Proposed Layout/Setup:See this minigame (http://ff-minigames.livejournal.com/53243.html). I want to run it almost exactly the same way.
Prizes/Participation: (how many points will you award for winning?)
1 point per token?
On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being easy and 5 being difficult), how much work do you think will go into maintaining this booth?: Probably a 3.

Name:Toffeethesnob/Toffee
Class: Thief
Booth Name: "Haven't I heard you somewhere before...?"
Booth Info: The booth is a trivia minigame featuring images from games or animes that FF voice actors (either English or Japanese) feature in with written clues being given as to which FF characters they play. The minigame is designed so that a knowledge of voice actors is not required as the clues are set up so that they tell you exactly who the FF character is as opposed to anything regarding the actor. (NOTE: The trivia will be a mix of mainstream and obscure anime/games so that even a regular anime nerd will have to try and use the FF clues rather than their trivia knowledge)
Proposed Layout/Setup: There will be screengrabs from 10 different anime/games (which may contain more than one character so for example a Saiyuki screengrab would be counted as one piece of trivia despite having more than one FF character to guess in there) posted every 5 days along with clues as to who the FF characters are supposed to be. The anime/games will not be revealed until the round has ended, along with the answers and the names of the actors involved. Here is an example:
Prizes/Participation: 10 points per example making it a total of 100 points up for grabs per round. However if a piece contains more than one character, both guesses must be correct in order to win points.
On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being easy and 5 being difficult), how much work do you think will go into maintaining this booth?: 4. Coming up with the trivia and clues is a cinch for me (though in the interest of getting another person involved I can give them the trivia and allow them to write up the FF clues) so the main work will be ensuring that the images are all showing up regularly, calculating the scores and answering any questions. The updates will occur every 5 days so the reveals of the previous round will coincide with the new batch. Otherwise the only maintenances required is answering questions and making sure the answers are screened/in the right format.
If you answered 4 or 5 to the above question, would you want a helper to help you out?: A helper would be most welcome. As I mentioned earlier, I would be willing to split it so that I just hand over trivia to someone and they come up with the clues for the FF characters or I could entirely handle the trivia/clues side and then give them to someone to run the contest and handle the questions/entries. But if there is a shortage of people then I can manage on my own.

Booth Name: "Toffee's Final Fantasy Character Cosplay Booth of Terror (mwahahaha!)"
Booth Info: A request booth with a twist. Request any FF character you like cosplaying as anyone or thing you like be it trivial or completely random. I'll take your idea and draw you up a pencil sketch of the madness for you to enjoy!
Proposed Layout/Setup: Since this is a request booth I'll be doing rough full body pencil sketches of characters/costumes the requesters ask for. Since pencil sketches can be done quickly and without too much trouble I can do a sketch within about 1-3 hours after the request was made depending obviously on how busy I am at the time.
Prizes/Participation: N/A due to it being a request fanart booth
On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being easy and 5 being difficult), how much work do you think will go into maintaining this booth?: 3. Other than creating the sketches the brunt of the work will be setting up the booth with a few examples but otherwise there isn't much effort involved.
If you answered 4 or 5 to the above question, would you want a helper to help you out?: Whilst I don't think I need one, I wouldn't mind having someone act as a mod in terms of making sure I'm up to date with the outstanding requests and answering questions the requesters might have but this is entirely superfluous.

...okay, I just dug through all of JM for it, and Ets apparently never gave a definite reply on the issue. Uhm. I can't answer that for her, but would you prefer to propose that and have it forwarded to her, or would you rather I ask her about the mini-contest straight?

Name: chacusha

Booth Name: Postcard Mini Contest
Booth Info: It's basically a UA contest but in FFES instead. The challenge is to make a postcard (both sides: one is the image side of a locale and the other is a handwritten note on the back from an FF character to another FF character). There will be voting at the end.
Proposed Layout/Setup: Screened submission. Separate voting post (this will push other entries down, but I think it won't be much of an issue now that LJ has sticky posts). I don't know what people would like for timing, but I'm okay with closing this activity 3 days early and using the last days of the festival for voting.
Prizes/Participation:
Entry: 15-20 points?
1st: 125 points?
2nd: 100 points?
3rd: 75 points?
Voting: 5 points
(Not sure how to balance this with the other activities. Help!)
On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being easy and 5 being difficult), how much work do you think will go into maintaining this booth?: 2
(In either case, I'll be canceling the second-half-of-September UA contests. Huzzah!)

Booth Name: Doll-making (lol I am reusing all the ideas I sent to the FFMG mods a while back)
Booth Info: Make a set of FF dolls! Using a doll maker such as the many found on Doll Divine, recreate a bunch of FF characters. Here's a silly example I did for FFVI characters using the Tudors maker.
Proposed Layout/Setup: Typical minigame setup! Unscreened comments.
Prizes/Participation: 5 pts/doll, maybe. Not sure how many dolls I should require, maybe something like 3-6?
On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being easy and 5 being difficult), how much work do you think will go into maintaining this booth?: 1
Other Notes: If I end up not doing this, someone else can take this idea and run it if they like!

Name: Naliarenegade

Booth Name: Lucky Cards
Booth Info: (suggested by lady_supernova) I have a deck of cards and you start with 5 points. Draw the right card and you may have the chance to win some major points.
Proposed Layout/Setup:
Rules are as follows.
1. Start a thread with your name in bold at the top. This will let me know that you want to play.
2. Everyone starts with five points.
3. You then can either trade in your points for something better or keep them.
4. This step relies on your previous choice.
(a) If you choose to trade in your points, I will draw a card from my deck of cards here at home, after shuffling the deck. You will get the points attributed to the value of the card drawn. Then you go back to step three.
(b) If you keep the points then that is how many points you get for the game. :D
- I will shuffle the deck before drawing a card.
- Some cards are special.
Prizes/Participation: (how many points will you award for winning?)
Depends on the card drawn. Max points is the 10 of spades which equal 20 points.
On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being easy and 5 being difficult), how much work do you think will go into maintaining this booth?: Probably a 3. The hardest part will be checking it twice or more a day, but that isn't a hard commitment for me to make.
If you answered 4 or 5 to the above question, would you want a helper to help you out?: N/A

Name: arivess
Class: Queen Stabbity
Booth Name: Bingo Hall
Booth Info: Bingo! A traditional activity! WE WILL HAVE IT.
Proposed Layout/Setup: Will do it similarly to Tako's previous Bingo minigames, although in the interest of not being timezone-limited, plus the fact that I'm not home during daytime ever nowadays, I want to make the actual picking-out-names bit at the end last longer. So basically, I will have a huuuuuuuuge list of names of... stuff (skills this time, maybe) at the start. I'll try to do it around the same number of options Tako had for previous bingo games, because I don't really want to balance it myself. :D Anyway, people will have one week to pick out a bingo card of 15 names from the list. During the second week, I will call out... say, 20 names per day. People then have the whole day to go ahead and call bingo. If multiple people call it on the same day, then they all get that rank's prize. If not all the placings are filled by the end of the festival, I'll use the overflow time and call out more names, and do it twice a day.
Prizes/Participation: As before, people will get 10 points for submitting a Bingo card. There will be a bonus given for the first four people to call Bingo, with points of +60, +50, +40, and +30. Absentee bingos (ie, people who call bingo after the first four winners are already declared) will get 15 points. There will likely be less of these though since it'll be more spread out, but anyway. People who call bingo on the same day will get the same tier prize. So if two people call first bingo, they both get +60. And the next person to call counts as third bingo (since two were already given out), and gets +40. If, say, two more people call bingo, then they both get the prize for fourth bingo, even though technically that would make it 5 winners.
On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being easy and 5 being difficult), how much work do you think will go into maintaining this booth?: 2? ...Tako will probably tell me otherwise though. >.>; But the spreading it out will make it less work too.

Name: arivess
Class: Kittyberry
Booth Name: Gloom (...unless I can come up with a catchier name like Torture Corner :D)
Booth Info: It's based largely off of the card game Gloom, where you torture your people and then kill them off! :DDD Except FF-based! With all your favourite characters getting eaten by dragons, stomped by chocobos, stabbitied by tonberries, etc. :D
Proposed Layout/Setup: You pick two characters each, and then do horrible things to them! :D There are three varieties of cards: good things, bad things, and DEATH. Good things will lose you points, bad things will win you points, and once a character's dead, nothing else can be played on them. You are given a limited amount of each (I think about 10-12 cards total, probably something like 5 "bad" cards, 3 "good" cards, and 2 death cards) when you sign up to play, and you can play any card on any character (even someone else's), though there will be limitations on how many cards of what type can be played on each character (ie, a maximum of two good cards and three bad cards, and obviously only one death). There will also be bonuses given for creative storytelling instead of just playing a card. :D
Prizes/Participation: The bad cards will give -10 and -15, so you'll stick about -60 altogether on your characters. The good cards will give +5 and +10, so you'll get about 20 or so knocked off altogether, ideally. I was thinking of giving half the points on the good cards to encourage people to use them, so that means you'll get about +10 or something, so uh... 50-ish points altogether for full participation, maybe 60-65 if you're reeeeaaaal lucky? I want to knock down the points a bit more though, maybe to about 50... Might limit the number of cards even more. Will also give a +5 bonus for telling stories instead of just playing cards for... say, at least 3 cards.
On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being easy and 5 being difficult), how much work do you think will go into maintaining this booth?: 3-4, depending on how many people play. I'll have cards prepared ahead of time, but if I run out, I'm going to have to make them up on the fly... >.>;
If you answered 4 or 5 to the above question, would you want a helper to help you out?: I don't think I'll necessarily need someone to help me run the booth, per se, although I guess maybe someone to keep an eye on things just to make sure people aren't over-using their cards or breaking other rules would be good. And, um. ;_; Card ideas are even better! Please?

Booth Name: Summon Stamping
Booth Info: Come find out which Summon you'd... Summon!
Proposed Layout/Setup: Well it's just like a rating community where people fill out an application and others vote to see which summon fits them best... It'd be kind of like the Classchange community: we have a queue of applications and I release maybe a few per day depending on the amount of applicants we get.
Prizes/Participation: I'm thinking that maybe I'd award points based on how many votes you write... Like one vote nets you five points and then it just goes up by five XD
On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being easy and 5 being difficult), how much work do you think will go into maintaining this booth?: That honestly depends on how many voters and applicants we get! As a whole I don't think it'd be too tough, maybe around a 2 or 3?
If you answered 4 or 5 to the above question, would you want a helper to help you out?: N/A
Sorry it took me so long to get this application up. I was still trying to figure out how points would be awarded and such XD;

Booth Name: Final Fantasy Clue
Booth Info: Very loosely based off the game Clue
I just didn't know what else to call it lol, but with Final Fantasy characters and trivia. Basically, by utilizing trivia answers and putting it all together, correctly guess which FF character killed [x] and at which FF location.Proposed Layout/Setup: Players will be given a list of FF characters and locations. Every two days (or more or less-- I'll need to know the exact timing of the GF first) players will get a trivia question which will eliminate one character if answered correctly. After answering it members can ask two (again, may change depending on how I determine the timing) questions to further limit the pool of options. Most of this will probably have to be done through screened comments or PMs...
Prizes/Participation: There will be a ranking system at the end, and the first 3 people who figure it out get bonus points and gil. Everyone is given 15 points for participating, with an addition of + 3 for every trivia question they get right, however, if that sounds fair. The top 3 also get shiny graphics.
On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being easy and 5 being difficult), how much work do you think will go into maintaining this booth?: 3?
If you answered 4 or 5 to the above question, would you want a helper to help you out?:
If this is too much trouble, I'll just go with the slot machine idea mentioned earlier. XD I just wanted to try something a little less luck based.
