Hey everyone! So sorry for being MIA. I've got so much craziness going on in my real life that I just dropped all my internet things at once (seriously, if you're curious, feel free to friend me and read my recent entries -- sigh!).

I'd like to set August 31st for the end of the cycle, and run the Hair Battle by then (I'm still working on it -- sorry it's taking so long!). However, I think I'll need some help to make that happen. Namely, I need someone to help run activities while I run the Hair Battle, because I don't think I can do both.

You don't have to come up with activity ideas, because Eilia and I already brainstormed more than enough to last a month (but if you have ideas you want to do, that's cool). I could also optionally use some help with keeping track of points. If you're interested, let me know!

The poll is now closed, and I think everyone can see the results? Not too sure. Anyway, it was 10 yes, 8 not sure but willing to try, and 1 no. So.. the alliances will be Black Mages + Thieves versus White Mages + Monks + Soldiers + Dragoons.

I'll be removing people from their previous alliances and re-adding them so be prepared for a bunch of LJ notifs, heh.

On a side note four members have been contacted regarding low participation and they've not responded, so they're being cut :( As before, however, if you missed the PM for whatever reasons and decide that you'd like to join again, all is needed is a PM or a comment somewhere to let me know. We don't demand participation but we definitely remove members who aren't earning points so that we get an idea of the team sizes.

Aaaaand Game 5 starts tomorrow!

Hi everyone!

Just a quick announcement: we're delaying the next point update to February 9th.

(Not to worry - everyone's points so far have been accounted for and will be included in the next update.)

Thank you for your patience!

TWO WEEKS LATE, BUT GAME 5 IS NOW OPEN! *cough*

We've made some changes so that reminders are now done in [livejournal.com profile] airship_lounge instead of respective team communities. Please contact [livejournal.com profile] breyzyyin with your email address if you would like to be on the mailing list (for those of you who don't have the time to check LJ that often)

Please help to promote [livejournal.com profile] ff_land if you can! <3

WE ARE URGENTLY IN NEED OF SOMEONE TO CREATE BANNERS FOR OUR NEW ALLIANCES: BLACK MAGES + THIEVES VS THE OTHER TEAMS I'M TOO LAZY TO TYPE OUT. We need them for point updates (I think we only need one for each alliance.) If you would like to volunteer, just let me know here!

Game 4 ends today!

It's been a rather quiet game, but we're hoping to speed things up for a more lively Game 5, so we're setting a start date for Game 5 for November 15th.

For new members, this will probably be your first between-games period, no? Sadly, during this period, all point-making communities close for tallying. The only communities open will be your respective team and alliance communities, and [livejournal.com profile] airship_lounge.

This game, however, we're making a few exceptions. [livejournal.com profile] moogle_workshop closes tomorrow, on the 2nd of October, so get your fanworks in quick for some few last-minute points! [livejournal.com profile] ff_eventsquare will be open until the October 15th, and you can earn points until then. [livejournal.com profile] ff_classchange will also be open until the 15th. Final results/game winners are expected to be up by around the 25th.

We're working hard to minimize boring times during this period, but remember that [livejournal.com profile] airship_lounge is open for posting by any member, so feel free to spark discussions or just start a "what's everyone doing lately" post.

This is quite important as during the between-games period, a members cut will be done. [livejournal.com profile] ff_land does not require extreme participation in order to stay a member (we appreciate lurkers too!) however we do a necessary cut to estimate team sizes so we know how to balance out the teams for next game. Any participation in [livejournal.com profile] airship_lounge up till the start of Game 5 will still counts (remember, you earn gil for posting in AL and you can use your gil to buy stuff).

I'll put up a list of members who might get cut shortly before Game 5, and all you have to do to stay is comment on that post telling me you'd like to stay. That's it :)

During this time we also put up some feedback. Mod feedbacks will go up shortly after this, and general communities and activities feedback will be done by [livejournal.com profile] arivess soon after too. We'll also be putting up rule changes if there are any, so if you have a suggestion or if you've found a loophole, please tell it to any one of the mods.

Finally, we're going to have a couple of mod positions open, so if you're interested, be on the lookout for mod applications, which will go up shortly too once all the mods have responded to whether or not they're staying on.

I believe that's it? Kinda lengthy, I know. Good game, everyone! Let's see who wins :)

Hello, guys! Mysti here. I am not your shiny events mod, as you very well know; that would be the lovely [livejournal.com profile] etsplanations, who is currently overseas. I'm posting this on her behalf since she's asked me to hold the fort for her while she's away.

For those of you who aren't aware, [livejournal.com profile] ff_eventsquare hosts a - well, the name says everything, doesn't it? - event once every game. Following Ets's grand (and very new) tradition, I'll copypaste the introduction [livejournal.com profile] lightofeilia wrote for the festival, back in Game 2:

So what's the Garden Festival? It's basically an excuse to throw a party :D Well, in all seriousness, it's actually so that non-members get a chance to see what it's like in [livejournal.com profile] ff_land. Right now the only public communities are [livejournal.com profile] ff_land, [livejournal.com profile] ff_classchange, and [livejournal.com profile] moogle_workshop. But for 15 days, there'll be tons of activities and games running, and everyone is welcome to participate, especially non-members!

Even better; if you've participated and decided that hey, it's a pretty fun thing, maybe I wanna join; you'll get to keep all of the prizes that you've won (in the form of game points)!

And for our current members, the Garden Festival is also a chance for you to run activities!

Hi everyone!

Due to some unfortunate circumstances (internet, work, life, etc), activity has been low for the last while. We've held a mod meeting, and I think most have agreed that the best thing to do may be to extend the game. Most points-activity mods are okay on this, but we haven't decided on a duration.

The proposal is to extend the game by either half a month (either 2 weeks or 15 days or so), or by a full month. Which would you guys prefer? I think at the very least, we'll extend it the 15 days anyway, but this is mainly to find out if you guys want to extend it even longer.

Just to be fair, I've also included options to vote to not to extend the game, or to ask for a longer or shorter extension period. Obviously, we'll consider those options if people want them, but we will most likely extend it 15 or 30 days in order to put up some more activities, since shorter than two weeks is too short to do much, and longer than a month may put too much pressure on the mods.

Hello, everyone!

Game 4 officially starts riiiiiight now, and ends August 31st.

Most of the changes and stuff have been posted; please read them when you have time! We'll still be announcing a couple more things, so please stay tuned.

Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] moogle_workshop is now open, and we'll have minigames and contests up soon.

And once again, everyone please check your invites for alliances, and new mods, please check invites to mod comms that I should have reminded you about earlier. LJ has been bad about e-mailing notifications about invites, but you should be able to see them here.

Good luck! Have fun! And may the odds be ever in your favour.

Hi guys! I know we've been pretty quiet on the announcement front, and no one's really sure what's going on right now. We've been a bit stagnant on the mods side, too, since everyone was busy, and with all the neutral mods, no one was taking charge. We finally got most things figured out, and there are a few big, important changes.

1. [livejournal.com profile] chacusha is stepping down as head/neutral mod, and I am taking over for now. As a result, I am now no longer a part of Team Thief, and Tako will be joining Team Black Mage.

2. [livejournal.com profile] zerrat is stepping down from all her duties, including that of neutral mod. In other words, we are in need of neutral mods again.

3. Several other mod positions will also be opening up. The mod application post will be made shortly.

4. We will announce the results for Game 3 very soon. We're just finishing up some last-minute tallies. Thank you for your patience!

5. Game 4 will start at the start of May, assuming we can get everything done before then, which we should be able to. In the meantime, please note that [livejournal.com profile] airship_lounge is very active and memetastic right now, and the gil cap has been pushed up for it, so please have fun and earn lotsa shinies. :D

6. There will be a mod evaluation and comm evaluation post up soon. Please take the time to give us feedback so we can make the next game better.

7. There will be a members cut soon! A proper one this time! Of course, even if you haven't been active, you can comment to stay in the comm; we won't kick you out. However, if you want to ninja in some activity right now, [livejournal.com profile] airship_lounge is a great place for that. :DD

8. There will be a slight change in the way polls are done, especially for yes/no questions. Polls will give the option of how strongly you feel about a certain stance, instead of just agreeing or not. As well, comments will be taken into more consideration than before, especially in the case of close votes. And even if we rule against you, if you comment and explain what you want or need, we'll try to accommodate that as best as possible. So, um, please comment if you have the time to! If you want to avoid arguments and debates, feel free to e-mail or PM me your suggestions and such instead, and I'll present them for you. You don't have to comment if you don't want to, but it's much encouraged. Your vote will still count! But if you comment, we can better understand your point of view and factor that into the decision.

9. In the end, we decided not to move to Dreamwidth. The split was around 50/50, but in the end, we felt we would lose too many members and mods if we moved. We'll be keeping a backup there, but for now, the comm is staying here on Livejournal.

Thank you everyone for stepping up and applying to fill all the open mod positions we had! First off, your new [livejournal.com profile] ff_land main mods are [livejournal.com profile] arivess, [livejournal.com profile] xinnk, and [livejournal.com profile] zerrat. A BIG welcome and thank you to them!

I have some posts I need to make to finish up Game 2 business (like... the game results...) but after that, you'll mostly be seeing [livejournal.com profile] zerrat and [livejournal.com profile] xinnk around these parts and not me.

The new mod team in more detail )

The Monk and Soldier teams are still open for a co-mod, in case anyone is later interested. Until then, [livejournal.com profile] zerrat will be helping [livejournal.com profile] freijya as a co-mod.

Hello there everyone! I meant to post this earlier, but as you may or may not know, the Garden Festival is now OPEN! Feel free to watch [livejournal.com profile] ff_eventsquare if you're interested in seeing festival-related announcements and such on your friends page (membership is closed to festival organizers, however).

Remember: this event is open to EVERYONE! You don't have to be a member here to join in the fun (although if you DO decide to apply to the comm, you get to keep your gil and points). :)

Here's a rundown of the activities where you can rack up gil and points:
Battle Arena (set up a three-person team and challenge other participants to duels)
Bingo (create a 12-item bingo "card" and participate in a bingo game the weekend after next)
Hunters Guild (special marks appear every so often; hunt them and level up within the clan)
Trading Card Game (start out with a pack of cards and trade them with others in order to end up with the ones you like)
Magic Pot Game (select the right flask in order to get an elixir to appease the Magic Pots)
Chocobo Hot 'n' Cold (dig for treasure with help from your trusty chocobo)
Specialty Job Class Rating (fill out an app and find out which secondary job class fits you best)
Chocobo Races (bet your gil at the chocobo races)
---
Welcome (go here if you're confused about anything!)

Sorry this is so... unpunctual... Forgive me, [livejournal.com profile] lightofeilia!

Due to the LJ outage, the following deadlines / activities have been pushed back:

!! The Garden Festival !! -- Previously was going to start August 1, but it has now been pushed back to Monday August 8 (and will last until the end of Monday Aug. 22)

Stamping -- [livejournal.com profile] kermit's application will be stamped Wednesday August 3 (or potentially Saturday Aug. 6 if there aren't enough votes or other apps come in).

Contests -- The current contests in [livejournal.com profile] ultima_arena will remain open until this Thursday August 4.

I've updated the community calendar to reflect these changes.

All right, so as I mentioned before going on vacation, the more I thought about the de-anon bonuses and how to handle them, the more thorns I ran into. I'm actually putting in my notes to propose we do away with them between Games 2 and 3 BUT, because changing the rules now would be really disruptive, here is my proposal for de-anon bonuses for the time being (posting to FF Land Main this time because these clarifications involve [livejournal.com profile] moogle_workshop and [livejournal.com profile] airship_lounge as well):

I. Fan essays are allowed to be posted in [livejournal.com profile] moogle_workshop at any time and will be given points using the fanfiction scale. However, to count as an essay they must have a minimum word count of 250 words and have some central "point" or theme to them.

Rationale )

II. To get a de-anon bonus for an entry, you must crosspost it to [livejournal.com profile] moogle_workshop. This is just to make it easier on the mods and give us one simple way of tallying de-anon points.

III. The de-anon bonus applies to all contests except shorter blurb-type contests. So as a corollary, all contest entries that are able to get de-anon bonuses can be crossposted to MWS. The team slogans challenge, for example, would not be given de-anon points and those should not be posted to [livejournal.com profile] moogle_workshop. Everything else, if you wish to de-anon, go ahead and post it to MWS.

In more detail )

IV. This system will be evaluated at the end of Game 2 for sure. If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to leave them on this post, or over at the Suggestions Post. And if what I've written here is horribly confusing, I'll be glad to answer any questions you have. :)

Finally, unrelated to this de-anon thing, I'm doing a member's cut soon, for real. LAST CHANCE: If your name is listed here you have 24 hours to tell me you want to stay or I'll be booting you from the comms!

I'll be on vacation this week from July 11-15. While I'm gone, if you have any questions or pressing issues, please send them [livejournal.com profile] roax's way. And be sure to participate in all the activities and contests while I'm away. :)

Also, a note regarding de-anon bonuses -- this rule that we implemented in Game 2 is turning out to be thornier than expected. I'm still working on defining (1) what kind of contest entries can be cross-posted to [livejournal.com profile] moogle_workshop, and (2) whether to allow people to de-anon without having to post to MWS, and if so, how to give out points in an organized way in that case. I haven't had time to think about this, so I'm putting this issue on hold until I get back. I apologize for the delay! If you have any thoughts on this, feel free to PM me or let me know here.

Finally, I just want to remind everyone that the deadline for Booth Applications is this Friday, July 15th. If you have any questions or need help with doing a booth write-up, just ask [livejournal.com profile] lightofeilia and she'll be happy to help. :)

Hello everyone! You might have seen some mentions of the Garden Festival before, but here's the official announcement -- [livejournal.com profile] ff_land's first ever Garden Festival will be held from August 1st to August 15th at our shiny new events community, [livejournal.com profile] ff_eventsquare!

(If you go to that comm, though, it's just a sad and empty place for now, because we're not done setting up yet!)

And for our current members, the Garden Festival is also a chance for you to run activities!

Info for members interested in running their own activity )

Note: The events in [livejournal.com profile] ff_eventsquare will be public, so you do not need to join it in order to participate in the Garden Festival. The only people that will be invited to it are those running a stand.
